| The Office of Gulf Coast Operations is responsible for assessing and meeting the changing educational needs of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When Hurricane Katrina devastated the coast in late August 2005, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning reaffirmed their standing commitment to higher education in south Mississippi. The Office of Gulf Coast Operations is the result of that commitment.
As approved by the Board, the office will oversee the rehabilitation of the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, which was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
