Education Achievement Council

Established in 2010 by the Mississippi Legislature, the Education Achievement Council is tasked with increasing the educational attainment and skill levels of the state’s working-age population to the national average by 2025. Council members include representatives of state government, public K-12 leaders, public and private higher education officials, and business community leaders. The Council is currently chaired by Dr. Jay Allen, president of Itawamba Community College. A full listing of current members of the Education Achievement Council is available here.

In October 2020, the Council passed a resolution formally adopting a post-secondary attainment goal for Mississippi through the creation of the Ascent to 55 initiative, which is working to increase post-secondary educational attainment to 55 percent by 2030.
