Sixteen students from across the state have received $500 IHL/Parents and Kids Magazine scholarships for use at a Mississippi public, private or community college for Fall, 2006. Seniors applied for the scholarships at the 2005 IHL/Parents & Kids Magazine Regional College Fairs. Sixteen recipients were chosen from a pool of over 30 applicants. Winners were selected based on their academic success in high school, extracurricular activities, community service, references from both school and community officials and a written essay. The entries were judged by College Fair sponsors.
“We congratulate each winner on their success in high school and hope they have continued success as they pursue their college degree,” said Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Thomas Meredith.
Sponsors of the scholarship program include AmFed Companies, AmSouth Bank, BancorpSouth Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, Edamerica, Education Services Foundation, Mississippi Affordable College Savings Program, Trustmark National Bank and USA Funds.
