EDUCATION RESEARCH CENTER TO HOLD HEALTH FAIR

Employees at the Education Research Center will have the opportunity to get a healthy start to the New Year at the 2015 Annual Health Fair, which will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the lobby and basement of the Paul B. Johnson Building and the lobby of the Jackson State Universities Center, both located at 3825 Ridgewood Road in Jackson.

The Health Fair will feature screenings, educational materials and door prizes from a variety of vendors. The free health screenings include blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), weight and height, and vision.

In partnership with the University of Mississippi Medical Center's School of Nursing, the Health Fair will also offer a variety of additional free Health Screening Packages to the first 40 employees to pre-register. These screenings include lipid panel, glucose, including A1c Hemoglobin if indicated, and bone density for women over age 50.

Information will be available on a variety of health-related topics, including arthritis, resources for the blind and visually impaired, cancer, dermatology, planning for emergencies and disasters, employee wellness programs, ergonomics, fitness clubs, gastrointestinal issues, hearth health, mental health, nutrition, oral health, organ donation and developing a health plan.

The Annual Health Fair is organized by the Education Research Center Worksite Wellness Committee, which includes representatives from the Mississippi Community College Board, the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, the Mississippi Library Commission, Mississippi Public Broadcasting, the Mississippi State Board of Nursing Home Administrators, the Mississippi State Board of Physical Therapy and the Mississippi State Department of Health.
