ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT STEPS DOWN

12/19/2013 - Jackson, Miss.

Alcorn State University President Dr. M. Christopher Brown II stepped down today.

Dr. Norris Edney, former Interim President of Alcorn State University, will serve as Acting President, effective immediately.

Board of Trustees President Bob Owens will appoint a Board Search Committee and begin a national search for the next president in the very near future.

“Alcorn State University is a strong institution that does an excellent job of serving our state,” said Dr. Hank M. Bounds, Commissioner of Higher Education. “The university plays a vital role in our university system. I want to assure the faculty, staff, students and alumni that the Board is committed to moving quickly to begin the search process for the next President of Alcorn State University.”

The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
