UNIVERSITIES TO HOLD DAY AT THE CAPITOL

WHO: Mississippi’s Public Universities
WHAT: Highlight how Mississippi Public Universities are helping solve Mississippi’s most pressing problems
WHEN: Wednesday, March 6, 2013 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: State Capitol Building, 400 High Street, Jackson
INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS INCLUDE (PARTIAL LIST):
  • Health screenings, including blood pressure checks and glucose screenings
  • Examples of outreach efforts with Head Start centers to improve early childhood education and prevent of childhood obesity
  • Demonstrations showing how the use of tablet devices has been integrated into the curriculum
  • Showing a music master class with a guest cellist via Facetime (12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
  • Cooking demonstrations and samples of healthy snacks from Culinary Arts Programs and Nutrition Programs, along with information on nutrition and wellness
  • Highlights of ongoing research activities
  • Information on programs providing training to current and potential micro-entrepreneurs in the Delta
  • Highlights of cultural programs used to promote tourism
  • Commercial Aviation simulators
