Questions to Ask
Below are just some of the questions you will want to ask when selecting a college:
- What kind of services and/or accommodations are available for students with disabilities?
- How are services/accommodations accessed?
- Are any services/accommodations limited?
- When are services/accommodations available?
- How are faculty informed about accommodations?
- Is a separate orientation for students with disabilities offered?
- Will I have to take a placement test, and, if so, how do I request necessary accommodations?
- What is the college advisement procedure?
- What are developmental courses and will I be required to take any?
- Is there a cost for any support services?
- Will my financial aid be affected in any way because I am requesting services?
- What kind of tutoring is available?
- Is there a student support organization on campus for students with disabilities?
- Is there a transportation system on campus and if so, is it handicap accessible?
- Is there a process in place to appeal a decision regarding accommodations, grades, etc.? Who do I talk with on campus if I believe I have been discriminated against because of my disability?
