Questions to Ask

Below are just some of the questions you will want to ask when selecting a college:

  • What kind of services and/or accommodations are available for students with disabilities? 
  • How are services/accommodations accessed?
  • Are any services/accommodations limited? 
  • When are services/accommodations available? 
  • How are faculty informed about accommodations? 
  • Is a separate orientation for students with disabilities offered? 
  • Will I have to take a placement test, and, if so, how do I request necessary accommodations? 
  • What is the college advisement procedure? 
  • What are developmental courses and will I be required to take any? 
  • Is there a cost for any support services? 
  • Will my financial aid be affected in any way because I am requesting services? 
  • What kind of tutoring is available? 
  • Is there a student support organization on campus for students with disabilities?
  • Is there a transportation system on campus and if so, is it handicap accessible?
  • Is there a process in place to appeal a decision regarding accommodations, grades, etc.?  Who do I talk with on campus if I believe I have been discriminated against because of my disability?
