33RD ANNUAL HEADWAE PROGRAM SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 2

2/26/2020 - Jackson, Miss.

State elected officials to address honorees, guests

Higher education in Mississippi is the focus of the 33rd annual HEADWAE program, which will honor outstanding students and faculty members from 34 Mississippi public and private universities and colleges on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the State Capitol.

Elected officials, along with Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr., Commissioner of Higher Education, and Dr. Andrea Mayfield, Executive Director of the Mississippi Community College Board, will provide remarks. Honorees will also enjoy a tour of the Capitol and will be recognized by the Senate and House of Representatives.

Higher Education Appreciation Day-Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) was established by legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state's public and private institutions of higher learning. The program is chaired by Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann.

"We are so pleased that our state elected officials will address the honorees and their guests at the State Capitol," said Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr., Commissioner of Higher Education. "The Legislature established this program in recognition of the difference that post-secondary institutions, their students and faculty, make for our state. It is wonderful to have their contributions recognized through this program each year."

Elected officials will address the group at 2:00 p.m. in Room 216 at the State Capitol. The honorees will be recognized by the Legislature in the Senate chamber at 4:00 p.m.
