MISSISSIPPI PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES WORK TO MAKE A HEALTHIER MISSISSIPPI

11/26/2019 - Jackson, Miss.

As the state's only academic medical center, the University of Mississippi Medical Center is leading the efforts to help improve the health of Mississippians. The Medical Center has a tri-fold mission to help Mississippians lead healthier lives by educating tomorrow's health-care professionals, conducting health sciences research, and providing cutting-edge patient care.

"The health disparities in Mississippi are an economic issue," said Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr., Commissioner of Higher Education. "Addressing these disparities will help Mississippians live healthier lives and help the state to have a healthier workforce, which will translate into more workers available for work and fewer days of work missed due to health issues."

Through its teaching, research and patient care mission, UMMC makes a substantial difference in our state. They are joined in this mission by Mississippi's other public universities, who prepare students to enter the medical center in pursuit of degree from one of the schools housed within the medical center.
