Why College?

Why is college important for your child?
There are too many reasons to list – here are just a few:

  1. In Mississippi, four-year college grads generally earn $9,000 more per year than someone with a high school education.

  2. College grads stay healthier, live longer, and have more self-confidencee.

  3. They’re less likely to go without work.

You’ve done OK without a college education, so why does your child need a degree?
It’s not the same world.  Job markets aren’t just local now – they’re global.  Your child will be competing for jobs with college educated people in India and China, so he needs to be prepared.  Also, the fastest growing jobs in America all require a college education.  Even manufacturing jobs, common in Mississippi, often require two-year college degrees.

Your kid makes Bs and Cs – he’d never get scholarships, and you can’t afford to pay for college, so what now?
College isn’t just for rich, A students.  With 35 colleges in Mississippi to choose from, you can help your child find the college that’s just right for him.  And there is lots of financial aid available that isn’t based on grades.

You don’t want your child to leave for college, change, and never come back.
That is an understandable fear. Sure, it happens, but most students don’t run off to California or the Big Apple.  They go to college in state and they stay in the state to work and raise their families.  With more education, your child can help make Mississippi better!
