Planning for College
Start planning for college early! Your child may dream of going to college, but she can’t dream her way in. There are steps you can take now to help her make it happen:
Step 1: Talk about college. Start early and talk to your child often about his plans for college. Then use the resources on this site to help.
Step 2: Take the right classes. Help your child know what classes she needs to take in high school. Course requirements at some colleges will change in 2012, so waiting until the 11th or 12th grade might be too late! Check out Credits Needed for College Admission.
Step 3: Begin with the end in mind. Help your child explore her interests and skills. Help him think about what he wants to do with his life. Doing so will make the process of choosing a college much easier. Check out the Career Planning section.
Step 4: Know the college options. Help your child find the college that is right for him and then get through the application process. People are different. That is why there are 35 different colleges to choose from in Mississippi. Check out College Options in Mississippi.
Step 5: Find money for college. Look into college savings plans and financial aid. Don’t assume you can’t pay for college or won’t qualify for aid – there are LOTS of options. Check out Financial Aid.
