For Enrollment Beginning with the Summer of 2012

In Mississippi high schools, credits are referred to as Carnegie Units:
1 Carnegie Unit = 1 year
½ Carnegie Unit = 1 semester (1/2 year)

The table below shows the total number of Carnegie Units required for admission at a public university and the required subjects. These are NOT graduation requirements.

1 Biology I
1 Chemistry I
2 of the following: Biology II, Chemistry II, AP Chemistry, Physics, Physical Science, Physics II, AP Physics B, AP Physics C – Electricity and Magnetism, AP Physics C – Mechanics, Botany, Microbiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, OR any other science of comparable rigor and

Social Studies

1 World History
1 U.S. History
½ Introduction to World Geography
½ U.S. Government
½ Economics
½ Mississippi Studies (credit earned for State/Local Government courses in any other state may stand in lieu of Mississippi Studies)

Arts

1 of any visual and/or performing arts course(s) meeting the requirements for high school graduation
