BOARD TO HOST FORUM ADDRESSING IHL AND MISSISSIPPI'S ECONOMY

On Wednesday, March 12, 2008, from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the University Club, located at 210 East Capitol Street, downtown Jackson, MS, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) will host “IHL and Mississippi’s Economy,” a forum to discuss how Mississippi’s University System can enhance current contributions to the state’s economic development and the most effective ways to communicate with policymakers and the general public the vital role Mississippi’s public universities play in the state’s economy.

Highlights include a presentation by Dr. Jesse L. White, Jr., director of the Office of Economic and Business Development at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on the link between funding for public universities and the state’s economic success, as well as comments from Dr. Thomas C. Meredith, Commissioner of Higher Education. Invited guests include members of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning; the Institutional Executive Officers of Mississippi’s eight public universities; leaders from the Mississippi House and Senate; representatives from the Governor’s Office; and representatives from the Mississippi Economic Council, among others. Media are invited and encouraged to attend.

IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
