WHAT: The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) is hosting a workshop to educate System personnel regarding the establishment of a major System-wide course redesign initiative in partnership with the National Center for Academic Transformation (NCAT). The goal is to achieve improvements in learning outcomes as well as reductions in instructional costs by redesigning large enrollment, multi-section courses using technology-supported active learning strategies. Dr. Carol Twigg, President and CEO of NCAT, and Dr. Carolyn Jarmon, NCAT Senior Associate, will be presenters for the workshop.

WHEN: Thursday, November 15, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: The Old Capitol Inn, 226 North State Street, Jackson, MS

WHY: The initiative will build on the successful models and lessons learned from NCAT's Program in Course Redesign and Roadmap to Redesign. During the 2007-2008 academic year, the program expects to award up to 15 grants to support redesigns projects. It is anticipated that most course redesign projects can be completed for $50,000 and awards will be in this range. An additional $50,000 per project may be awarded to projects of exceptional merit requiring significant equipment purchases.

Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
