The mission of the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid is to provide all qualified college and college-bound students with state-funded financial assistance, with a focus on Mississippi residents. In keeping with this mission, we have created one, easy to complete, application to enable student to apply for all state-funded scholarships, grants or loans.

Under the governance of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid is responsible for the administration of all state-funded financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships and loans. These funds provide assistance to Mississippi residents in pursuit of their educational and professional goals.

William Winter Teacher Scholar Loan (WWTS). The program requirements listed below should not be considered as the only requirements for participation in this program.

Application Deadline: March 31st

Available to the first-time applicant who:

dark blue box Is a junior or senior student at a four year Mississippi college or university.

dark blue box Enrolls in a program of study leading to a Class "A" teacher educator license.

dark blue box Is a resident of Mississippi. Residency must be documented by submitting required residency documents.

dark blue box Can verify the intention to pursue a first-baccalaureate degree in teacher education.

dark blue box Can document that Praxis I has been passed or have a minimum composite score of 21 or higher on the the ACT (national testing) with a minimum of 18 on all sub-scores on the same national test.

dark blue box Agrees to employment immediately upon undergraduate degree completion as a full-time classroom teacher in a public school in the State of Mississippi.

dark blue box Enrolls full-time in undergraduate course work (minimum 12 undergraduate semester hours or 9 undergraduate trimester hours).

dark blue box Has achieved a cumulative 2.5 grade point average on all college course work previously taken.

dark blue box Completes the online web application and submits all support documents by the deadline.

Renewal and Continuing Eligibility Requirements: All continuing participants must:

dark blue box Remain enrolled full-time (minimum 12 undergraduate semester hours or 9 undergraduate trimester hours).

dark blue box Exhibit satisfactory academic progress as established by the institution throughout the normal time required to complete the teacher education curriculum. For WWTS, the normal time required will be determined by when the student began the teacher education curriculum.

dark blue box Achieve a minimum 2.5 grade point average each semester.

dark blue box Successfully complete a minimum of 24 undergraduate credit hours each year.

dark blue box Document that Praxis II has been passed after no more than three semesters of WWTS participation.

dark blue box Renew the application each year by completing the online web application.

dark blue box Remain in program of study leading to a Class "A" teacher educator license.

Teaching commitment: The loan to service obligation can be discharged on the basis of one year's service for one year of loan received. Teaching service is defined as being employed as a contracted full-time classroom teacher in a Mississippi public school.

dark blue box Service obligation deferment is not available for pursuing an advanced degree.

Applicants for WWTS should not apply for CNTP. Award Amount and Length of Eligibility: Junior and Senior participants are eligible to receive up to $4,000 per year. Eligible participants may continue to receive funds for the four (4) semesters.

Other Important Information: Programs of study which do not qualify for WWTS include, but are not limited to:

dark blue box Psychological and counseling services

dark blue box Recreational therapy

Students pursuing an alternate route to teacher certification are not eligible for WWTS funds.
