1. The application requires a copy of my Letter of Acceptance to an eligible institution
and while I have applied to a school, it may be that the notice of acceptance will not be
forwarded to me until after the March 31st deadline. What should I do?
The only exception to the submission of documents is the Letter of Acceptance which
may be submitted after the deadline but must be submitted before any funds will be disbursed.
2. What additional documents must be provided with this application?
See the Application Process.
3. What happens to my award if I drop classes during the semester?
Should a recipient fail, withdraw, or have to repeat any course, he/she is suspended from
participation in he Program and his/her awards are stopped until such time hs/she as the
proper official at his/her institution informs the Board that he/she is ready to advance.
4. How is "good standing" determined?
The Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid will abide by the determination of the attending
institution regarding grade point average, enrollment status, program of study and any other
information which involves your eligibility for initial consideration and continuing program
participation. There will be no reimbursement for challenged, audited or prerequisite courses
which are required to be accepted into a school. If you have questions regarding these issues,
you must contact the school you are attending for resolution.
5. If awarded STSC, when and how are the funds made available to me?
All STSC awards are made payable to the institution with the student (you) designated as the
recipient
It is the student's responsibility at the end of each term to request his/her school's registrar to mail an
official transcript to us. Funds will be delivered to the school and credited to your student account
after verification by our office that you are enrolled in the required credit hours, have maintained the
required GPA and are continuing to pursue the appropriate program of study. Every effort is made to
deliver funds to the appropriate school by registration each semester.
6. I know that as a recipient under the STSC Program I have a contractual obligation to work in
the state of Mississippi as a licensed health care professional. What if I am unable to find a job
immediately after completing my degree? What if I am unable to pass the licensure test so that
I may begin to work?
Upon commpletion of the degree program and at the discretion of the Board of Trustees, all recipients
are eligible for a one calendar year grace period to pass the licensure exam. Upon completion of all
licensure requirements, recipients should notify the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid
within sixty (60) days of their place of employment; otherwise, the unpaid principal and interest shall
become due and payable on demand to the Board in equal monthly consecutive installments, as
determined by the Board, with interest calculated at the Federal Stafford Loan rate at the time of the
occurrence of the event. The recipient may not defer his/her service obligation in order to pursue an
additional degree.
