Ms. Amy Whitten was appointed to the Board by Governor Ronnie Musgrove to represent the former Second Congressional District for a term to expire on May 7, 2012. She received Bachelors' and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Mississippi. Currently a practicing attorney, she is also the founder of The Whitten Group, a consulting and development firm which targets organizational excellence in both the public and private sectors.
Whitten previously served as Counsel and Court Administrator to the Mississippi Supreme Court and as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Mississippi. She was the first woman chair of the Mississippi Judicial Performance Commission and taught for over fifteen years in Mississippi's two law schools.
The author of Mississippi's Guide to Government, Whitten is a permanent faculty member in the state's Certified Public Managers' Program. She received the Stennis Award for Excellence in State Government in 1991, and in 2000, she was named Mississippi's Woman Lawyer of the Year. In 2002, Whitten was awarded the Governor's Power of One Award.
The Whitten Group maintains offices in Jackson and Oxford, and Ms. Whitten resides in Oxford.
